Saturday 24 April - Alton Concert Orchestra's 18th Anniversary Spring Concert
This year sees the 18th Anniversary of the founding of Alton Concert Orchestra,
and, to celebrate, a Spring Concert will take place on Saturday 24th April,
7.30pm at The Forum, Alton College.
The orchestra was formed in January 1992 and performed its first ever concert on Valentine’s Day of that year at The Forum. The orchestra’s first conductor was Martin Read, followed in 1995 by Graham Cross, and is now conducted by David Budd. Throughout these 18 years the orchestra has gone from strength to strength, providing young and old lovers of music in our area with a chance to enjoy good music played by local musicians who love to play and are happy to support the local community. For this concert, the orchestra is really looking forward to returning to The Forum, the original venue of their first ever concert.
The orchestra is celebrating their anniversary by playing an assortment of well known classical pieces for all the family. The music includes the beautiful “Serenade for Strings” by Elgar, Sibelius’ “Karelia Suite” and Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino”. Also, for this concert, the orchestra is very happy to be joined by the well-known local female barbershop group, the Dulcet Tones who will be singing a happy variety of songs.
Admission is free and no prior booking is necessary. Light refreshments will be served during the interval and there will be a retiring collection at the end. There will be Free Parking in College Car Park 'D', Edward Road.
